REGISTER A RELATIONSHIP

By registering your relationship with Births Deaths and Marriages means that your relationship is legally recognised.

You must be over 18 years of age or older and in a relationship with another person as a couple irrespective of sex or gender identity.

At least one of you must live in South Australia.

Your relationship can't be registered if you or your partner are

  • married
  • already in a registered relationship or corresponding law register relationship
  • in a relationship as a couple with another person
  • related by family

You will need to fill in a form and submit that form online.   Our member celebrants can assist you with this and you will need to pay fees to the Births, Deaths and Marriages.  This form must be submitted at least 28 days before you wish to be registered.

Our member celebrants can perform a Ceremony of Legal Relationship for you and offer a Commemorative Certificate as well.

Fees for these ceremonies vary between celebrants and you will need to contact the Celebrant of your choice, to find out their fees.

If you have any queries, please ask your chosen member celebrant, as they are up to date with all the legal requirements.
